Bloom & Create: Flower Arrangement Workshop
Join us for a special hands-on floral experience designed to bring Black elders together through creativity, connection, and care.
In partnership with Brooklyn Blooms, this guided workshop invites participants to explore the art of floral arrangement in a warm, welcoming studio setting — creating something beautiful to take home while making space for joy, softness, and self-expression.

About the Experience
At Outside with Recess Village, we believe our elders deserve intentional spaces to rest, create, and be celebrated.
Bloom & Create is part of our Elder Explorers series — a collection of free experiences designed to support wellness, connection, and joy for Black elders.
This floral arrangement workshop offers more than the chance to make a bouquet.
It’s an opportunity to:
slow down and create with your hands
connect with others in community
experience the calming benefits of working with flowers
leave with a beautiful arrangement of your own
Whether you’ve arranged flowers before or this is your first time, this experience is designed to be welcoming, relaxing, and meaningful.

Flowers invite us to pause.
They remind us that beauty, softness, and care are essential — not extras.
For many elders, especially those who have spent so much of their lives caring for others, opportunities to create simply for the joy of it can be rare.
This workshop is about making room for that joy.
It’s about expression, presence, and the quiet power of creating something beautiful in community.
What to Expect
During this guided two-hour session, participants will:
Learn the basics of floral arrangement design
Work with fresh seasonal blooms
Create a mini-vase arrangement to take home
Enjoy a relaxed and supportive group experience
All floral materials and tools will be provided.
No prior experience is needed.

Elder Explorers is a community wellness initiative from Outside with Recess Village, created to offer free, culturally-rooted outdoor and creative experiences for Black elders.
Through nature, wellness, and joyful gathering, Elder Explorers creates opportunities for rest, reflection, and connection in spaces where Black elders are centered and cared for.

The Revival: A Day of Black Joy, Rest and Creative Reconnection in Nature
What is The Revival ?
The Revival is an outdoor gathering for the Black community rooted in rest, remembrance, and celebration. Inspired by the legacy of Black church tent revivals — reimagined through the lens of joy, creative expression, and wellness — this is a day to breathe, explore, move, and gather in nature.
Brought to life by Outside With Recess Village, The Revival is an open-air offering designed to reconnect Black folks to the land and to each other. Come as you are — this is your invitation to reset, reflect, and rejoice in sacred rest and play.
What to Expect
Choose your own rhythm — The Revival is a festival-style experience with ongoing activities and performances throughout the day. Settle into what calls to you.
Live Performances
Throughout the day, enjoy soulful sets from singers, rappers, drummers, and spoken word artists — culminating in a powerful final performance to close us out.
